How did you start racing?
Came up through indoor/outdoor Karts, then graduated to Time Attack and racing. My love for cars started when my dad came home with a 1999 BMW E36 M3 in Estoril Blue. Then racing on TV, indoor karting leagues, HPDE, race school, Time Attack, Spec Racing and starting our own team: Maggio Motorsport.
What is your favorite car to race?
My BMW M2C Time Trial car. I'm pretty sure I'm contractually obligated to say that! Its been a rewarding experience developing and building this platform with our team and partners.
What is your favorite track?
Club Motorsports is my home track, and where I go the most but Watkins Glen in New York is my favorite to drive! Nothing beats going flat out through the Esses at the Glen!
Best track day experience?
Mosport Park in Canada last year... not my biggest win but the one I treasure the most. A crazy day..... The Time Trial event started with me putting my car into the wall in the first session and ended with me on the top step of the podium!!
Worst track experience?
First event of the season: We were fastest in class all weekend but our class was spread out over two run sessions. It was dry for the first group and right as we left pit lane it started to pour. That helpless feeling of being on the wrong tire and the win slipping away.
Advice for newcomers?
- “It is not always possible to be the best, but it is always possible to improve your own performance.” - Jackie Stewart
- Seat time comes before all else.
- At every HPDE you can find a veteran in a Mazda Miata lapping a beginner in a Porsche GT3 RS.
- Enjoy the journey and the results will come.
- This is supposed to be fun and we do it because we love it.
