Ryan Aillet ... "Stay in a slow car long enough to become a fast driver"

Posted on May 03 2026

How did you start racing?

A snowball effect with my 1965 Mustang. Restoring had me thinking, why not put a fun engine in it. If it’s got a fun engine, I’ll need a badass driveline. If I have a badass driveline, I’ll need decent suspension and brakes to manage it. The next thing you know I had to see what it was capable of and now I have a wide body, coyote swap, with roll cage and constant chase to becoming faster.

What is your favorite car to race?

1965 Mustang I built out of my garage.

What is your favorite track?

MSR Houston.

Best track day experience?

So far running my personal best of 1:52 on a hot June Summer day in Texas.

Worst track experience?

Spun off track, ripped my exhaust off, and to drive an hour an a half home with exhaust dumping out the headers.

Advice for newcomers?

Stay in a slow car long enough to become a fast driver before buying into a fast car to numb your skill development with a car that has driver assists.

Tell us about you?

I am an enthusiast that began a hobby that’s transformed into content creation which has now grown to a meaningful level that offsets cost of racing and building more cars.

Final Thoughts?

Competition is good. It’s alright to have a preference in brands of cars, parts, tires, but don’t let it become a political identity that alienates you from another community.
